What kind of books do you read for fun?

Mostly I read romance in all of its subgenres (contemporary, paranormal, fantasy, etc), but I also read high fantasy, urban fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries, and thrillers. Really, whatever strikes my fancy.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

My family.

If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be?

-Good health. I have type 2 diabetes and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. I’d love to be rid of those and be down to a healthy weight, which I am slowly struggling toward on my own. I could potentially get rid of the diabetes someday. Hashimoto’s is, unfortunately, a lifetime condition.
-To own my fantasy house overseas.
-To have the money to pay for my son’s college and to travel.

What is the best writing advice you can give?

-Write as much as you can, and read as much as you can. It sounds cliché, but it’s really the best advice I can offer. You have to hone your own craft. You can read all the advice books you want and learn how to self-edit and all that, but no one can teach you how to write. It develops through practice and hard work.

Can you share a little about your current release with us?

-Sure! My current release is a short story written with Xara X. Xanakas for the Project Fierce anthology. This anthology is near and dear to my heart. I feel really strongly about LGBTQ youth homelessness since they make up such a disproportionate number of the homeless kids out there. I wanted to do something to help, but I only have so much of my own money to donate. I thought of the idea of doing a charity anthology, in which each author would contribute a story for free, with all proceeds going to a designated charity. I pitched the idea to Less Than Three Press, one of my publishers, and they agreed to produce the anthology and even give up their own earnings (minus vendor fees) to the cause. The charity we’re helping is Project Fierce, which seeks to provide transitional housing and support services to homeless LGBTQ youth in Chicago.
